Royal Canin- Pug 25

Hello Fellow Pug Parents!!!

This is Heather (aka Pugsley & Lola's mom) writing today.

I recently received a flyer in the mail for Royal Canin- Pug 25.

I have had no problems with the food I feed Pugsley & Lola, but I can only buy it at their vet. After reading through the flyer, this new food sounded like it might be worth a try.

I wanted to reach out to fellow Pug folk and see if anyone had started feed the Royal Canin- Pug formula or had any other advice on Royal Canin?

Thank you for you help!!
Have a PUGTASTIC weekend:)
Heather

  1. Heather- I believe we use a Royal Canin food! It's for Sophie since she gets UTI's easily, so it's urinary health. They all seem to love it (definitely more than their old food!)

  2. We use Royal Canin - not the pug version, though, as it's real expensive and only come in small bags. It's among the best kibble we can get around here (apart from what the vets sell).

  5. Yes, we have tried it I bought it for Winston. Winston did enjoy it but I did not notice him having any easier time grabbing at the kibble based on the shape being designed for pugs. Personally I think the shape of the food is just a marketing feature directed toward people with that breed of dog. I have been feeding Winston the small bites by Nutro Natural Choice and he seems to be able to eat both types of kibble no problem regardless of shape. I did find Royal Canine to be a bit more oilier than his regular brand. I noticed too that I could only get the one flavour. Winston prefers lamb and rice over other flavours although he will eat both his preference is lamb and rice in both kibble and wet meat. Royal Canine is not available in lamb and rice designed for pugs. It is worth a try though, I find it is pretty much the same as all other brands of food by various suppliers ex: Iam, nutro, technical, etc. they are all pretty standard and quite good. We do try other brands once in a while, but I still find myself going back to his standard Natural Choice as it comes in his preferred flavour and the bites are nice a small.

  6. We think this sounds great, but our girls can't eat it sad! Sequoia is allergic to some of the Royal Canine food and well Tuni only has a few teeth so she eats super soft food. Good luck!

  9. Hi Heather, Pugsley and Lola!
Mom buys my food at the vet, too, since I am prone to getting UTI all the time... We haven't tried this one though!

  10. I have to keep mine on a low ash diet to keep Bandit's uti away. Wish we could be able to try some other things.

  11. I eat Fromm, a four-star food, made in the US with all real ingredients. Not only is it extremely healthy, but I love all the different kinds. And the food is made for you to be able to switch around without having an upset stomach. So I can go from pork and applesauce one day to duck another day to chicken the next day. I highly recommend it. Check out their website to read product information and answers to FAQs. http://www.frommfamily.com/index.php

  12. I used to eat this but since it comes in little bags my humans switched me to another type. It's all food to me so as long as they put something in my bowl I'm happy :-)

  13. I have a long hair chihuahua who is a super picky eater. She tried Royal Canin adult toy breed. SHE LOVES IT!!! Before Royal Canin I tried just about every brand dog food I could find and she wouldn't eat it. This was instant she'd cobble it so fast she'd strangle herself. ONLY drawback for us is that our Main Coon cat loves it too. So we have to hide the food when the cat is in the room.

  14. Believe it or not, we have a picky pug (I know, right?) and he totally jams on this stuff. He was fussy and we tried this stuff and he snarfs it down. His coat looks glossier too.

  15. I noticed that second on the list of ingredients is CORN-not good for any dog, much less my pug!

  16. Here is a website that reviews just about every dog food there is. http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/
I've been reading up on dog foods and they explain what is actually in the food we feed our dogs. Every dog food is rated from 1 star to 6 stars. 6 being the best. Royal Canin is mostly a 2 star rated dog food. After doing a little research on the Pug 25 formula, I personally would be hesitant to feed it to my dogs. The size and shape may be easier for them to eat, but the ingredients are not that great. Lots of fillers and by products.

  17. Hi Hektor has been fed on Royal Canin since he was a Pup, the mini junior and then the mini adult. We changed him onto the Pug 25 when it came out and he has thrived on it. The one comment I would make is that he is on around 75 grammes a day I am not sure but I think they recommend a lot more but he puts on weight if I give him more. My Vet thinks it is very good for his teeth even though it seems to have a lot of calories.

  18. I give this food to my one and half year old Pug Bruno. Prior to switching to this brand Bruno was limping and seemed quite stiff for only being a year old, after switching he is a new dog!!!!!! He no longer limps on his hind leg and seems to have more energy and is happier then ever ! I would reccomend this dog food to anyone who has a pug!

  19. We've just bought this food for our 1 year old girl. She used to eat Eukanuba, but stopped completely a couple of weeks ago. Picky pug? I didn't believe my eyes.

Let's hope this works better, and that it doesn't contain questionable ingredients. I don't know if Sweden has the same rules as the states...

  20. Switched my 2 year old Pug to it about a year ago.He was previously on ProPac,which gave him bad breath and weight gain.Immediately after switching him to Pug 25,i noticed he no longer had breath issues, and hes perfect with his weight. He also has more energy and seems to like it more than the ProPac.Even though it comes in small bags,i do the best i can since he likes it so much with the cost and all.

  21. I recently put my pugs Molly and Monte on royal canin and they LOVE it. They used to be on Nutro Natural Holistic food. This food they eat it like it was it was going out of style. Molly is very picky about her food and Monte will snub food at times. This food is great! I have noticed their coats look shinier and their energy levels are better. Also, they do sell bigger bags, I buy the 25 pound bag, they also have a 35-401 pound bag as well. I go to a private food supplier called "PET CLUB" and they order it for me about every 3 to 4 weeks. It runs me about 40$ average. Anyone who wants a larger bag just ask your local supplier to see if they will order a larger bag for your pugs and most pet food stores should and will order it for you. (they want the business)
This is the best food I have ever put them on! NO going back to anything else!
